Sea Creature Necklace
Nrat-Tuan; 12th-13th Century, Post Imperium: This necklace does not have any particular significance at the Court of the Imperium, indeed, it is not known how it came to be in the archives. It is typical of the domestic jewellery worn by the more affluent Nrati-Tuan in the 12th Century. It would appear that the styles of domestic jewellery followed on slowly from those worn at the Court, so that what was fashionable for the delegates in one century, became fashionable (and also available) for the commoner in another, later era. The necklace is characteristically long, made of single units, and inspired by a particular sea-creature known as a Ntrid, much favoured as a source of oils, and used extensively in the manufacture of perfume. It was considered perfectly correct, and even desirable, to represent such Ntrids as a form of bodily ornament.
