Four Amulets

Forest People, 10th Century Post Imperium: These are simply four examples of typical protective devices carried by all Forest People. Amulets vary in appearance, but are all made from natural materials in the shape of small pouches which contain a variety of protective devices - beads, fetishes, coral, beetle antennae etc. Every mother makes her child one of these pouches as her first gift to the newborn baby, so that the child is under protection from the moment of birth. From time immemorial the Forest People have been persecuted by other inhabitants of Irusaq, so the need for protection can be seen as a very real one, as well as a spiritual need for warding off the spirits of evil. Individual amulets are much coveted by Irusaqi collectors, who trade with the Forest People, exchanging metal and jewels in return for the amulets of those Forest People who have died; no living person will part with one, and cases have been recorded where over-enthusiastic traders have killed for a particularly prized piece.
